Felicita was a goddaughter. Her home village lies on a little platform in the Kilungu Hills, where the people earn their living working hard on terraces. Behind a little hut they grow some cabbages.

When the rain seasons fail to come, the people have to carry the necessary water from the deep valley early in the morning.

Felicita lives with her mother, sisters and brothers in a mud-wall hut with a thatched roof. Half of the hut serves as a cooking place with one corner for a little store. But this is empty very often. The other half is the sleeping place for mother and children.

Her father had died in the early eighties, just when he had started to build a little brick house, the ruin of which is still to be seen not far away.

The family is very poor. The school fees for Felicita's education could have never been afforded without a sponsorship. The girl was very happy about this, because she could go to school now.

Meanwhile she became a teacher herself with her own family. And by her profession she could earn enough money to contribute to her mother and her sisters.
